Men's Basketball Loses Road Tilt At VCU

Jordan Derkack And Amaël L'Etang Led UD With 15 Points

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Dayton men's basketball team struggled out of the gate and never recovered, falling 99-73 to VCU on Friday night at the Siegel Center.

The Flyers (15-9, 6-5 A-10), playing without second-leading scorer De'Shayne Montgomery, gave up 50 points in the first half and the deficit was too much to overcome. The Rams (18-6, A-10 9-2) have now won six consecutive games.

Senior Jordan Derkack and sophomore Amaël L'Etang each had 15 points to lead Dayton, while senior Javon Bennett had 13 and sophomore Bryce Heard had 10. L'Etang added a game-high 13 rebounds to register his third double-double of the season.

UD shot 36.9% (24-of-65) from the floor in the game, including 36.8% (7-of-19) from beyond the three-point line, while VCU shot 46.9% (30-of-64) overall and 33.3% (8-of-24) from beyond the arc. The Rams made 31-of-38 (81.6%) from the free-throw line, while the Flyers were 18-of-30 (60%).
