DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's tennis team is set to play two matches this weekend, taking on Cleveland State at home and Northern Kentucky on the road.
The Flyers had split results last weekend, taking down Marquette 4-0 at home before falling 6-1 to Xavier. Christian Chin, Mallory Hitchcock and Haley Klein all went 3-1 on the weekend, winning both doubles matches and their singles matches against Marquette.
Cleveland State is 2-10 this season, falling 7-0 to Buffalo and 6-1 to Ball State last weekend. Ella Franz is this week's Horizon League Singles Player of the Week. Anna Mancino and Leah Geisz also earned Doubles Team of the Week for the second time this season.
Dayton is 1-6 against Cleveland State, suffering a 7-0 loss to the Vikings last season. The Flyers' win was a 5-2 decision in their first meeting in 2018.
Northern Kentucky is 2-5, getting swept by Bowling Green on Feb. 27. Darya Gneidina leads the Norse with seven wins in singles. Catharina Cardoso and Didi Steenhuis lead the team in doubles with four wins.
The Flyers are the Norse met in the Xavier Invitational and the EKU D1 Showdown in the fall. UD is 8-6 against NKU in dual matches. Dayton won last season's meeting 6-1. Natalie Osiecki and Montserrat Sierra won their singles matches. Haley Klein also won by forfeit.
Dayton will return to action on March 20-21, facing Davidson and Saint Louis for Atlantic 10 competition.
