DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team defeated Akron 11-4 at home, surging ahead of the Zips with three home runs.
Danny MacDougall led off the game for Dayton with a solo shot to left field. With runners on, Colin Lynch singled to center field, scoring one run. Jason Bello then cleared the bases for a 5-0 lead. Dayton batted around in the opening frame, tallying their final run of the inning on a hit by pitch.
In the second, Alejandro Sardinas doubled to center field for the FlyBoys' seventh run of the day to make the score 7-0.
Akron scored a run on a wild pitch in the third, but the Flyers responded in the bottom of the sixth on a fielder's choice by Lynch.
After the Zips hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh, Grayson Carpenter hit an RBI double. MacDougall tallied the game's final run on an inside-the-park home run for the FlyBoys' 11-4 win.
