DAYTON - The University of Dayton athletics department has announced the hiring of Collin Toner as its next men's golf head coach. Toner will join the #FlyerFamily June 2 following
Gip Hoagland's retirement from coaching at the end of May.
"I'm very grateful for the opportunity to serve as head coach of the Dayton men's golf program," commented Toner. "I'd like to give special thanks to
Krystal Warren,
Neil Sullivan, and the entire hiring committee. The University of Dayton is one of the top private institutions in the Midwest, and I'm blessed to have a chance to lead the strong program that Coach Hoagland has built."
Toner comes to Dayton after spending the 2025-26 season with the Boise State men's golf team as an assistant coach. He helped lead the Broncos to two team tournament titles and played an integral role in securing verbal commitments from Idaho's second-ranked recruiting class of 2027.
"We're excited to welcome Collin Toner as our new men's golf coach,"
Neil Sullivan, University of Dayton Vice President/Director of Athletics, said. "He's a young, bright mind, a true student of the game who brings a genuine passion for teaching and development. He has a commitment to balancing academic and athletic excellence, and has a clear understanding of our golf mission at the University of Dayton. He's the kind of leader who will develop not just strong golfers, but well-rounded young men in the community and beyond."
Prior to his time at Boise State, Toner served as assistant coach and director of operations for Baylor's women's golf program during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. The Bears made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championship held at the Champions Course in Carlsbad, Calif., during his tenure with the team.
"His experience working with exceptional, Hall of Fame coaches at Baylor and Boise State have given him the tools to develop and lead our student-athletes," said
Krystal Warren, senior associate director of athletics and golf sport program administrator. "He is well-positioned to continue to build on and grow the great tradition of the Dayton golf program."
A 2021 graduate of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in professional golf management with a minor in business administration, Toner completed his master's degree in sport management at Baylor in 2023. He was also elected as a Class A PGA Member in 2023.
WHAT THEY ARE SAYING
"We are excited to have Collin join the Flyer Family. We have a great team in place and they are excited to start this next part of their career here at UD. I am excited to support and cheer on Colin and the team as much as I can."
-
Gip Hoagland, Dayton men's golf head coach
"I'm thrilled for Collin and for the University of Dayton. Gip did a great job, and I know Collin will continue to build on that foundation. Dayton is getting a hard working person who will serve the student-athletes and the Dayton community with class and integrity. I look forward to following Collin and the success that is to come for Dayton Golf!"
- David Trainor, Boise State men's golf head coach
"Collin will do an amazing job for University of Dayton! I loved working with Collin because he used everyday to learn as much as he could about being a golf coach, from the not so glamorous budgets and compliance paperwork all the way to the interactions and development of players. It always felt like he was eager to learn and get better at coaching collegiate golf. We are beyond excited for Collin to begin his head coaching career and wish him and the Dayton Family all the best."
- Jay Goble, Baylor women's golf head coach
"Collin is one of the best examples I have seen of what discipline looks like. His character is beyond reproach. He is going to be a great coach, no doubt in my mind, and I look forward to following his progress through the years."
- Mike McGraw, former Baylor men's golf head coach - retired
