Volleyball Opens 2026 Campaign With Four-Set Win Over RV Marquette

Freshman Sidney Sprada Led Dayton With 18 Kills And Four Aces

DAYTON – The University of Dayton volleyball team came out strong, taking down RV Marquette in four sets (25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21).

Freshman Sidney Sprada started out hot in set one for the Flyers, starting a four-point run with a kill and three back-to-back aces. After tying the set at 22 apiece, another ace for Sprada and a kill by Abigail Cresse gave Dayton set point, taking the set lead on a kill by Kamryn Hunt.

Dayton took an early 5-2 lead in the second set, but the Golden Eagles held on, tying the set seven times before making the match even at one set each.

A pair of four-point runs in the third helped keep momentum with the Flyers. Gabriela Machin Borges began the first run for a 9-6 lead, with Cresse sending Dayton to double-digits. A pair of kills by Sprada widened the lead to 12-6. Trailing 18-16, a block by sophomores Addi Gallentine and Charlotte Vinson earned the sideout to send Dayton ahead, before taking a two-set advantage from a kill by Machin Borges.

Marquette started the fourth set with a 16-13 lead before Dayton went on a seven-point tear featuring a kill each from Hunt, Machin Borges and Sprada. Marquette attempted a comeback, putting the set within two at 23-21 in favor of the Flyers before Vinson and Hunt put away the match.
