Brooks And Sprada Named CollegeAdvantage Student-Athletes Of The Week

Dayton Student-Athletes Will Be Recognized Throughout the School Year

DAYTON - University of Dayton football junior Javawn Brooks and volleyball freshman Sidney Sprada have been named the Ohio's 529 Plan CollegeAdvantage Student-Athletes of the Week. These awards are for contests held Aug. 24-30.

Brooks earned PFL Defensive Player of the Week honors Sunday after a two-interception game to start the season as the Flyers defeated Fairmont State at home, 43-10. The junior safety picked off an experienced FSU quarterback midway through the second quarter and returned it 35 yards, all the way down to the five, setting up an easy Dayton touchdown. On the following drive, the Indianapolis native intercepted a pass again and returned it another 28 yards, setting up another Flyer score. Brooks finished with two tackles to go along with his two interceptions.

In her collegiate debut, Sprada was named to the Flyer/Raider Invitational All-Tournament Team after Dayton's 3-0 performance. She led the team with 41 kills and six aces, while also tallying 27 digs, one solo block and three block assists. In the win over Marquette, Sprada recorded 18 kills and four service aces. The Brookville, Ohio, native was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Monday.
