Biography

Prior to UD: Redshirted as a true freshman at the University of Minnesota in 2009 … Played for two seasons at Madison (Wis.) College … Went 4-2 in 13 appearances with a 3.79 ERA as a weekend starting pitcher in 2011 … Struck out 46 batters, good for second-most on the team … Held a 0.63 ERA as a winning pitcher, allowing just two earned runs in his four wins … Madison outscored its opponents 57-9 in games which Coenen was the winning pitcher … One of two Madison College players to sign for UD in the same year (RHP Parker Schrage) … Also pitched with Joel Effertz (Virginia) at Madison … Team finished third at the NJCAA Division II World Series … Made one three-inning appearance, striking out two, in 2010 for Madison … Academic All-Conference in 2010 and 2011 for the North Central Community College Conference.

High School: All-State pitcher for Franklin High School under coach Jim Hughes ... Three-year starter for the Sabres … Named All-State in 2007 by the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association … Three-time All-South Division … Two-time All-Greater Metro Conference in 2007 and 2008 … Tossed a six-inning no-hitter in the Sabres’ 12-0 win over South Milwaukee (7/11/07) … Earned varsity letters in three sports – baseball, basketball and volleyball … Member of the National Honor Society.
