Brian Steiner

Brian Steiner is in his second stint on the Dayton football staff, serving as the program’s special teams coordinator and also coaching the Flyer defensive ends.  Steiner was previously UD’s defensive line coach from 2006 to 2008.

Dayton won the Division I-AA Mid-Major (non-scholarship) national championship in 2007, and the Flyer defense was ranked #4 nationally in total defense, #1 in sacks and #2 against the run.

Steiner’s 10 seasons in between coaching at UD were all spent at Clarion University, where he coached the Golden Eagles' defensive line for all 10 years.   In that decade, Clarion had 16 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference selections.

Prior to his first three years at Dayton, Steiner was a graduate assistant and defensive line coach at Illinois Wesleyan University for two seasons (2004, 2005) and a student coach at the University of Toledo in 2003.

A native of Findlay, Ohio, Brian attended Cory-Rawson high School and graduated in 1999. He was a three-year football letterwinner playing offensive guard and defensive end. His senior year the team was 7-3 overall, while Brian was a captain and all-conference selection.

Attending Bluffton University, Brian played linebacker in 1999 as a true freshman, and started for three seasons at defensive end from 2000-2002. A 2002 co-captain, he was a 2002 HM All-Conference choice, a 2001 and 2002 Second Team Verizon Academic All-District selection.

A 2003 graduate of Bluffton with a B.A. in Sport Management, he earned a Master of Science in Psychology of Sport & Physical Activity at Illinois State in 2005.

Brian and his wife, Kari-Beth, have two daughters -- Isabella and Ellianna.
