The University of Dayton men’s soccer team and head coach Dennis Currier have announced the hiring of Mike Lyons as the new assistant coach.

“I’m honored to be joining the staff for University of Dayton men’s soccer,” said Lyons. “Coach Currier has had huge success while playing an attractive brand of soccer. I am very excited to learn from my fellow coaches and look forward to helping Dayton be even more successful in the years to come.”

Lyons comes to Dayton after spending the 2022-23 season on the staff at the University of Virginia. He helped guide the team to a 10-4-5 record overall and 5-1-2 mark in the ACC. The Cavaliers advanced to the ACC semifinals before earning an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament. Virginia reached as high as No. 11 in the national rankings and was ranked for eight weeks during the season.

Prior to Charlottesville, Lyons spent two years with Skyline Elite in the ECNL after a professional career overseas. He had stints in Brazil and Ireland before returning to the United States in 2017 to earn his degree from the University of Lynchburg. While there, he began his coaching career at Jefferson Forest High School, leading his team to its first state final since 2010.

Lyon brings his wife Abigael and daughter Kai with him to Dayton.
