Biography

?2011: Beljan played in 19 games (of Dayton's 23) and started 17...she played 1,430 for the Flyer defense that posted eight shutouts...was a Top 10 finalist for the Senior CLASS award, which is based on academics, competition, character and community....closed out her career as one of the most decorated defenders in UD women's soccer program history...During her four year career, the Flyers went 69-14-8 – their .802 winning percentage was the seventh best in the nation. She was a three-time Atlantic 10 First Team selection, was the 2010 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and helped UD to 45 shutouts during her career...named Third Team on the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Women's Soccer Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)....She is a three-time CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District selection, including First Team All-District 5 in 2011...was also an All-Ohio selection... 2011 NSCAA Women's College Scholar All-America Second Team selection.

2010: Beljan entered her junior season with high expectations and closed out the season being named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year...was selected to the Atlantic 10 Preseason Team, chosen as a team co-captain, as well as being named UD’s first-ever women’s soccer player to the 2010 Hermann Trophy Watch list, an award that is considered the most revered in intercollegiate soccer...her performance on the field was just as worthy of these honors as she anchored the UD defense that was best in the league in terms of goals allowed and shutouts...was extremely vital to the team as evident by her team-leading 2,104 minutes as she never played less than 70 minutes in a game during the season...was named to the NSCAA All Mid-Atlantic Region Team and First Team All Atlantic 10...earned All-Ohio honors for the third consecutive season, this time taking OCSA First Team honors...she proved equally adept in the classroom as she was named an NSCAA Scholar All-American First Team selection...also garnered OCSA Academic All-Ohio honors and NSCAA Scholar All-East Region First Team accolades...finally, she earned First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District IV honors.

2009: Started in all 23 games for the Flyers this season and was a vital element of a tough Dayton defense that shut out a school-record 15 teams, playing 2,155 minutes … recorded an assist in a 4-0 victory against Middle Tennessee St. (Aug. 30)… named to the Hurricane Cup All-Tournament Team after playing 220 minutes of two double overtime matches against Navy (Sept. 4) and Western Carolina (Sept. 6) in Miami, Fla.... was named to the 2009 Preseason All-Conference Team and earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors along with teammates Kelsey Miller and Allison Giner…for the second consecutive season named to the A-10 All-Championship Team...converted the first penalty kick in a shootout against No 25 Marquette (Nov. 13) to help Dayton advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament...selected as a member of ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 4 and OCSA Academic All-Ohio First Team… also named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team and OCSA First Team All-Ohio.

Freshman (2008): Started 20 games as a defender, logging 1,750 minutes...Savvy and virtually impossible for offenses to get by, she was selected to the Division I Freshman All-America Fourth Team by SoccerBuzz.com and tabbed to the Great Lakes Region All-Freshman squad...Honored by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association as a First Team All-Ohio defender...Selected to the Atlantic 10 Championship Team...After a strong rookie campaign, she was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team and earned a spot on the A-10 Second Team...Also named to the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and UD Dean's List for Spring 2009 and Fall 2008.

Coach Tucker on Kathleen Beljan - "Kathleen has outstanding speed and quickness, is skillful and is equally adept playing either in the back or in the midfield. She is very comfortable joining the attack from the back and is excellent in transition. She is very comfortable as a left-sided player. Kathleen has played at a very high level of club and high school play."

Prior to UD: Four-year starter and Scholar Athlete of the Year at Hilliard Davidson High School...Named Ohio Capital Conference Second Team in 2007...In 2004 and 2007, her high school team finished 20-1-1 and 13-3-4, respectively...In club play, was a 2005 and 2006 state quarterfinalist and 2007 state semifinalist... Academically, she has been in the top 10 of her class all four years and is also a member of the National Honor Society.
