Ryan Freeburg arrives in Dayton after spending the past two seasons as an assistant at Atlantic 10 foe George Washington. There, he helped elevate the Colonials to an annual contender in the conference. His experience is in assisting with on-court training, directed opponent scouting, and video operations/statistical analysis.

A 2010 Purdue University graduate, Freeburg received his degree in management before entering the coaching world. He also helped the Purdue volleyball program as a volunteer assistant and manager for four years while serving as the club director for the Lafayette Volleyball Academy in Indiana.

As a player, Freeburg was the starting outside hitter for the Purdue men’s club team that competed in the 2009 NCCS Collegiate Club Volleyball Championships in Kansas City, Missouri. He is a native of New Castle, Indiana.

“Being around Midwest volleyball for a long time, I got to see first-hand what a great program Dayton has,” said Freeburg. “I am very excited to join a program that has the athletes, facilities, and support to be a top level program year in and year out. Plus, I get to coach with Coach Affolder and Coach Ross, two people that I have known for a long time and that I have a lot of respect for.”

Coach Affolder commented on the addition of Freeburg.

"I am thrilled to be bringing Ryan to Dayton,” Affolder stated. “He has been around the sport from a very young age and his experiences in the Big Ten Conference and the Atlantic 10 Conference are going to help our program immensely. His knowledge and background in on-court training, opponent scouting, and technology are going to be a great benefit to our players and coaching staff. He is passionate about the sport and has proven to be a student of the game. I have enjoyed talking the game with him during the hiring process and I am really excited to work with him as we prepare our team to compete against the nation's elite."
