Taylor Filzen

Taylor Filzen will be in her ninth season on the Dayton volleyball staff as the director of operations in 2022. She serves as the liaison to the administration, equipment, marketing, athletic communications, facilities and external staffs as well as the program's video coordinator.

As the team's academic coordinator, Filzen has helped lead the team to four-consecutive AVCA Academic Awards including a 2021 Honor Roll recognition.

Additionally, Filzen works with staff members to promote program through fundraising/donor connections and also work with alumni contacts while also coordinating special events. Additionally, she oversees DataVolley scout coding/statistical analysis and is responsible for all program logistics (including tournaments, travel, budget, equipment, etc.).

A 2017 graduate of the Women Leaders in College Sports Institute for Administrative Advancement, Filzen has served as the USA Volleyball Collegiate National Team Technical Coordinator in 2018, 2019, 2020 (canceled due to COVID-19).

Prior to coming to UD, Filzen served as the coordinator of athletics communication and administration, began full-time employment in the University of Northwestern Athletic Department after being a three-year student-athlete for the Eagles. Her position was made possible through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant program. In addition to other responsibilities, Filzen was involved primarily in both the sports information and NCAA compliance areas of the athletic department.

During her time as a student Northwestern, Filzen was a member of the Eagles volleyball teams that advanced to NCAA Tournaments in both 2011 and 2012. Off the volleyball court, Filzen served as a co-chair of the Northwestern Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and vice-chair of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) SAAC. Filzen gained experience in the Northwestern Athletic Department after working in both the athletic recruiting and sports information offices during her tenure as a student. A Northfield, Minn., native, she earned Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Academic All-Conference honors three times.

Coaching is in Filzen's blood as she comes from a family that has decades of experience with her mother, Tammy Filzen being the winningest coach in Carleton College women's basketball history.

A 2012 graduate of University of Northwestern with a degree in public relations, Filzen completed internships with the Carleton College Athletic Department in 2011 and the UMAC in 2012. She completed her master’s degree in organizational leadership from Northwestern in May 2014.
