CHARLESTON, SC - The University of Daytom men's golf team closed out its first competition of the Spring season on Tuesday with an 11th place finish at the CSU Spring Kick Off Tournament held at Coosaw Creek CC.
UD had consistent performances as its top four competitors were separated by just seven strokes while taking home 50th-53rd place individually.
Despite the toughest playing conditions of the two-day, three-round event, senior Sam Morton had his lowest round of the tournament on Tuesday. Morton carded an 80 to lead all Flyers in 50th place individually.
Classmate John Zaller fired an 89 in his final round to finish two strokes back of Morton in 51st place with an overall score of 249. He was followed by sophomore Rob Chappell in 52nd place with an overall score of 252 after a final round tally of 87 on Tuesday.
Fellow sophomore Mitch Custenborder and freshman Kenny Wittenberg each carded an 85 in the final round for the Flyers. Custenborder placed 53rd individually with an overall score of 254. Wittenberg rounded out the Dayton competitors in 57th place with a tally of 266.
