TITAN INVITATIONAL UP NEXT FOR UD MEN'S GOLF

April 17, 2008

With two tournaments left before the Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship, the Dayton Flyers head to the 2008 Detroit Titans Invitational, Friday through Saturday at the Golden Fox Golf Club in Plymouth, Mich.

The field will include five schools from the Horizon League (Detroit, Butler, Cleveland State, Green Bay and Youngstown State) along with teams from the Atlantic 10 (Dayton), MAAC (Loyola of Baltimore) and MAC (Bowling Green), as well as the reigning Canadian Universities Champion (Humber).

The competitors will play 36 holes on Friday, April 18 with the initial tee time set for 8 a.m. ET.

The teams will play their final 18 holes on Saturday, April 19 with all golfers going off the Golden Fox's first tee, again beginning at 8 a.m. ET. The field will be re-paired Saturday based on 36-hole scores.

The Arthur Hills-designed Golden Fox will play at 6,783 yards, with a par of 72.

UD is coming off a 14th place finish at the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational. Battling two days of mid-30s temperatures and strong winds, the Flyers rebounded from a 322 in day one to tally a 317 in round two and a 309 in the third round.

Junior Rob Chappell and freshman Zach Glassman were the best Flyer finishers tying for 41st overall.

At the Titans Invitational, UD will send a lineup of Chappell, Glassman, Matthew Friend, Jeff Hodapp and Ian Gilley.

Gilley on Monday earned the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week award. In the fall Chappell tallied the Player of the Week award while Glassman was named the rookie of the week back in September.

As a team this season UD is averaging 304.77 strokes per round during the spring, just a two-stroke jump from the fall campaign.
