2008 A-10 MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP UP NEXT FOR FLYERS

April 30, 2008

The Dayton Flyers men's golf team looks to avoid its third consecutive eighth place finish by sending four freshmen and a junior to the 2008 Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Golf Championship.

Freshmen Zach Glassman, Jeff Hodapp, Ian Gilley and Chris Woeste join junior Rob Chappell in the A-10 Tournament as the final event for UD in the 2007-08 season.

The 30th annual event will take place from May 2-4, at the Orange County National Golf Course in Winter Garden, Fla.

Joining the Dayton in the quest for the A-10 title are Charlotte, Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington, La Salle, Rhode Island, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's, Temple and Xavier.

Tee times for all three rounds of the Championship begin at 8 a.m. ET.

Last season the Flyers finished in eighth shooting rounds of 294, 309 and 292. Chappell put rounds of 69-75-70 together to finish with a 214, good for 12th overall.

Chappell has been solid once again for UD. He earned the team's Most Valuable Player award for the third season in a row and leads the Flyers in stroke average in 2007-08 at 75.0 and total rounds with 22.

However for the Flyers to succeed head coach Drew Tyrer is relying on a young but talented lineup. Glassman earned the A-10 Player and Rookie of the Week award earlier this week and has fired 12 consecutive rounds in the 70s.

Gilley is another A-10 Rookie of the Week recipient who has played well in the spring averaging 76.9 strokes per round. Woeste and Hodapp have been equally consistent this season coming into the tournament with an overall stroke average of 76.9.
