RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Clara Ang won the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Golfer of the Week after opening the spring season with an event championship.
Ang shared the honor with Towson’s Emily Kwak and Georgia State’s Charlotte Lorentzen.
The junior from Singapore fired a 77 at the UD/Hilton Head Spring Invitational and medaled after winning the tournament by a stroke. She fired back-to-back 39’s helping the Flyers win the event as a team as well.
“Clara is not only a tremendous ball striker, she has the tenacity and never lets a bad shot get in the way of getting the ball in the hole,” said head coach
Sally Kosters. “She also shows that same desire and drive in her academics.”
Ang currently leads Dayton with a 77.7 stroke average and 10 rounds of play this season.
Off the course, Ang is one of Dayton’s best students. Earlier this year Ang was one of three Flyer student-athletes named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar. She is also a Presidential Scholar-Athlete award winner.
This is Ang’s first career weekly award.
For the second time this season the Flyers have had a conference weekly award winner. Julie Pouliquen earned the honor on Oct. 20, 2010.
Dayton returns to action on March 28-29 at the Butler Spring Invitational. The two-day event will be held at the Prestwick Country Club in Avon, Ind.
