KETTERING, Ohio – An even-par 70 in round one from junior
George Rohde III led UD in the 2013 Dayton Flyer Invitational.
After shooting a 36 in the first nine holes of play, Rohde bounced back with a 34 on the back nine. He is tied for seventh among individuals after the first round of play.
Just one stroke back was senior
Andrew Steffensmeier with a 71. Steffensmeier is tied for 12th after carding a 35 and 36 on the front and back nine holes of play.
With the tournament held at the NCR Country Club North Course, Dayton recorded a team score of 295 and is in a tie for ninth.
"We're going to focus on the positive," said head coach
Gip Hoagland. "We had two guys play really well and a couple of guys who are really close. We are going to correct those mistakes tomorrow and shoot a good score."
Two Flyers, freshmen
Caleb Wolters and
Nick Paxson, each tallied a 77 in round one. Junior
Craig Purpus rounded out the team scoring with a 78.
Among the Dayton individual players, junior
Will Chambers led the way with a 73. Chambers is tied for 25th among individuals. Sophomore
Matt Fazio and freshman
Kevin Wargo each finished with a 76, while redshirt sophomore
Thomas Goss added an 84.
The second and final round will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 14 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
