MADISON, Wisc. – The University of Dayton women's cross country team competed at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday in Madison, Wisconsin.

"Overall, we have a lot we can take today," said head coach Sarah Haveman. "We entered the regional not ranked in the top 15, but managed to finish in the top 15."

There were 33 teams competing in the event on Friday with a chance at a trip to the NCAA Division I Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on the line. Individually, 227 girls competed for just a few spots to potentially compete at nationals on Nov. 23.

The Flyers scored 459 points which put them in a tie with Ohio in 15^th place. Dayton just edged out Bowling Green, IUPUI, and Youngstown State.

Senior Nicole Cargill led the way for Dayton with a time of 21:21, which put her in 39^th place individually. Junior Katie Ollier posted a time of 22:30 and finished 101^st overall while senior Lizzie Gleason finished in 22:32 and 102^nd position.

Freshman Kathleen Keene was close behind the first group and finished in 22:39 and 107^th-place. Lauren Clark (22:44), Olivia Albers (22:49), and Mary List (22:59) rounded out the day for the Flyers.

Michigan finished first overall as a team, followed by Butler, Michigan State, Notre Dame.

Coach Haveman talked about the highlights of the event as well.

"Nicole Cargill has done a phenomenal job leading our team this season and is a great example of what it takes to be successful at this level," Haveman stated. "Today sets her up for a very successful track season. Kathleen Keene also had a great day and I am proud of how she competed and where she is headed."

The Flyers wrapped up the 2013 team campaign in Wisconsin with the Division I Championships qualifying list being announced upon the completion of all regional events.
