MACKELL NAMED AN ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN

University of Dayton Department of Athletics Spring 2013 Academic Highlights

University of Dayton graduate Stephen Mackell was one of 15 runners named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I men's track and field/cross country first team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Mackell is the sixth Flyer to be named an All-American this year. UD has more All-Americans than any other school in the Atlantic 10. He is one of 21 Dayton student-athletes who posted a 4.0 GPA during the 2013 spring semester.

Mackell, a Findlay, Ohio native, holds a 3.99 GPA as a double major in economics and philosophy with a minor in entrepreneurship. During his senior campaign he was a team captain and was also named a UD Presidential Scholar Athlete, which is presented to one male and female athlete who has demonstrated academic excellence, qualities of leadership, and service to the University of Dayton community.

During the cross country season, he began with a 16:11 in the Flyer 5K and had his best race of the season at the NCAA Pre-Nationals running 25:39.  He ended the year as the fourth fastest Flyer at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional running 33:15, closing his four-year career.

He is also a two-time Academic All-District® V First Team selection.
