DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's soccer team battled the University of Miami (Fla.) Sunday in the final preseason game for the Flyers, but dropped a 2-1 decision to the Hurricanes.
The Flyers opened up the scoring just one minute into the contest with Libby Leedom placing a cross from Juliana Libertin at the top of the six-yard box into the bottom left corner of the net. That put Dayton ahead early on the Hurricanes, 1-0.
Miami tied the game up at 1-1 five minutes later with a goal by Jasmine Paterson in a similar fashion as the first Dayton goal. The assist on the play was by Tara Schwitter.
The score remained even at a goal apiece as the two teams went into the locker rooms at halftime.
The Hurricanes managed to break the deadlock at the 37:00 mark of the second half on a header by Shannon McCarthy, courtesy of a Paige Lombard free kick. That put the visitors up on the Flyers, 2-1.
In goal for Dayton were Elizabeth james, who recorded a pair of saves, and Bridget Bielski, who had one save.
The Flyers played their final exhibition game of the season and now gear up for the regular season. Dayton travels to Boston University on Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. to open up the 2013 campaign.
