FLYER MEN'S SOCCER OPENS UP 2013 SEASON AT IPFW

DAYTON, Ohio
- The University of Dayton men's soccer team opens the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 1 against the Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne Mastodons at 1 p.m. This will mark the second game for IPFW, who hosts Northern Kentucky Friday night.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The Flyers won their last exhibition match at Eastern Illinois this past Saturday, 2-1. Goals by junior Greg Enstone and Eddie Jones sealed the close win for Dayton against a tough Panther squad.

ABOUT THE MASTODONS
IPFW enters the weekend with a veteran group of players, including its top two goal scorers and starting goalkeeper from last season.

Sophomore Corey Tom leads the way for the Mastodons after scoring four goals in 20 games last season, while sophomore Jose Rodriguez contributed three goals and an assist in 2012. Junior Brandon Cloutier will take his place between the posts for IPFW after recording 95 saves and made all 20 starts last yaer.

PRESEASON PREP
Dayton faced a pair of quality opponents in the preseason after tying the University of Kentucky 0-0 in the opener and defeating Eastern Illinois 2-1 last weekend. To wrap up the preseason, the Flyers held their annual Red and White intersquad scrimmage Sunday  in which the Red team came out on top 5-2. Sophomore Maik Schoonderwoerd scored a pair of goals in the scrimmage for the Reds.

PRESEASON ACCOLADES
The Flyers had a trio of players recognized by preseason All-Atlantic 10 team lists. Senior Abe Keller was named First Team All-A-10 in the College Sports Madness poll with sophomore goalkeeper Chris Froschauer earning second team honors in that same release. Freshman forward James Haupt was named to the All-Rookie team by the A-10 and was tabbed the Freshman of the Year by CSM as well.

RED JERSEY
Senior midfielder Eddie Jones earned the teams' Red Jersey. An award presented to the best performer in the preseason for UD. Players accumulate points in games, practices and team challenges.

SHAPING THE PROGRAM
UD men's soccer had 16 newcomers at this point in the season last year. The 2013 is different as the Flyers benefit from the experience of nine seniors and three graduate students.

WINNINGEST COACH
Head Coach Dennis Currier became UD's winningest soccer coach in 2011 recording win number 66, surpassing former head coach Roy Craig who had 65 wins from 1988-1995. In addition, Currier's wins came in 130 games, which was 31 games less than Craig. Currier holds a .707 lifetime winning percentage with a combined record of 267-102-33.

ACROSS THE GLOBE
This year's Flyer squad features 11 international players. Dayton has student-athletes from Canada, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Netherlands, Jamica, Costa Rica, Sweden and Switzerland.

UP NEXT
Dayton returns home to Baujan to host the 2013 Dayton Flyers Classic. The tournament will involve Dayton, Eastern Illinois, Northern Kentucky, and Lipscomb. There will be two games Friday, Sept. 6 and two games Sunday, Sept. 8.
