UD WOMEN TAKE THIRD AT FLYER 5K

Dayton Has Two Top 10 Finishers

KETTERING, Ohio - The University of Dayton hosted the 15th annual meijer Flyer 5K to kick off its 2013 season. The UD men's team placed fourth out of seven NCAA Division I teams, while the Flyer women took third place.

The event kicked off with the men's 5,000-meter race. Sophomore Jordan Redd of Ohio State won the individual championship in a time of 15:37.9. The meet record is 14:45, set by Dayton's Chris Lemon in 2010. Ohio State also won the NCAA Division I title with a team score of 30, followed by IUPUI (42), Miami (53), Dayton (104), Xavier (165), Wright State (179) and Northern Kentucky (184).

Senior Tyler Roeth was Dayton's top finisher in 11th place in 16:03). The next top six finishers for the Flyers were freshman Michael Tymoski (16:17), freshman Ethan Louis (16:21), junior Michael Russell (16:22), sophomore Matthew Krakora (16:24), freshman Kyle Lach (16:33) and freshman Hunter Johnson (16:36).

Senior Rachel Zajac of IUPUI won the women's 5,000-meter race in a time of 18:25.2. The meet record is 17:25, set by Rachel Patterson of Miami in 2010. Ohio State won the title with a team score of 24. IUPUI (53) just edged out Dayton (60) for second place. Northern Kentucky (109) was fourth, followed by Xavier (149), Cleveland State (157) and Wright State (190).

Six runners competed for the Flyers, led by junior Mary List's seventh-place finish in a time of 19:08. Sophomore Mickey Ludlow also finished in the top 10 at ninth place in a time of 19:15. Junior Katie Olier was 11th in 19:18 and junior Lauren Clark was 13th in 19:34. Also for the Flyers, freshman Kathleen Keene ran a 20:06 and sophomore Bridget McElhenny ran the race in 20:34.

In the Intercollegiate division, Denison won the women's race over Wittenberg, while in the men's race Denison and Wittenberg tied with a team score of 28.

The Flyers are back in action Friday, Sept. 6 at the Queen City Invitational at Kingswood Park in Mason, Ohio.
