LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Dayton volleyball team dropped its Nebraska Ameritas Players Challenge opener 3-0 (13-25, 18-25, 23-25) to No. 17 Iowa State Thursday evening at UN's Devaney Center.

Senior Megan Campbell led the Flyers with seven kills in 19 attacks with no errors, hitting at a .368 clip. Senior Allyson Morey served up three aces and sophomore Alaina Turner passed 10 digs for UD.

Iowa State (5-2) rattled off the first three points of the match and quickly jumped out to the 8-2 advantage on Dayton (3-4). A Cyclone attack error and back-to-back service aces by Morey cut into the ISU advantage, pulling the Flyers to within five, 12-7. The lead was again five, 16-11, in favor of Iowa State but the Cyclones pulled away with an 8-0 run to put the set out of reach. ISU took the first game, 25-13.

Again in the second set, Iowa State was able to take the early lead, holding the 4-1 advantage. A kill from sophomore Angel Agu pulled UD to within two, 6-4, but that would be as close as the Flyers would get. The Cyclones led by as many as nine late in the set before the Flyers put together a 4-1 rally to stay in the game. ISU was able to close it out and claim the 25-18 second-set win.

Campbell's first kill of the third set knotted the two teams at three apiece. The Flyers rattled off four straight points to force the Cyclones into a timeout with the 7-3 lead. ISU used its own run to pull the teams even at 9-9 but UD got the lead back, 13-12, on a service ace by Turner.

The Cyclones built some momentum with a 3-0 run but a kill from Campbell pulled the Flyers to within one, 19-18. UD reclaimed the lead at 22-21 and again at 23-22 heading into ISU's second timeout of the set. The Cyclones held match point at 24-23 and was able to claim the win with a Flyer ball-handling error.

ISU was led by Ciara Capezio with 14 kills, one of three Cyclones with double-digit kills, and 11 digs. Jenelle Hudson also recorded a double-double in the contest with 34 assists and 14 digs.

The Flyers return to action tomorrow evening as they are set to take on the host Nebraska Huskers. First serve is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
