Match Notes
The University of Dayton women's soccer team (3-4-1) will travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas (0-6-1) Friday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. The Flyers will then make their way to Toledo for a match against the University of Toledo Rockets (2-4-0) on Sunday, Sept. 22 set for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
FLYER FACTS
• Sophomore
Ashley Campbell (6 goals, 2 assists) and senior
Juliana Libertin (3 goals, 4 assists) pace UD offensively with 14 and 10 points, respectively. They are responsible for 64 percent of Dayton's goals (14), 46 percent of its assists (13) and 59 percent of its total points (41).
• Libertin recorded her 31st career assist against FIU. She is second all-time at UD and she is third in the NCAA for active career leaders, just two assists behind Marquette's Maegan Kelly.
• Freshman
Elizabeth James has started every minute in goal for the Flyers. She has 38 saves, two shutouts and a 1.34 GAA.
• The Flyers bounced back with a 1-0-1 weekend last week after suffering three consecutive losses to Michigan State, Tennessee and Kentucky. Dayton has not lost three consecutive matches since 1995,
Mike Tucker's first season as head coach of the Flyers.
SCOUTING CENTRAL MICHIGAN
The Chippewas are 0-6-1 going into the match against Dayton. Central Michigan is coming off a 2-0 loss against Ohio State along with a 2-1 loss against Indiana. Three players (Emily Cooksey, Laura Gosse, and Jennifer Gassman) are tied as leading scorers for the Chippewas with one goal each. Central Michigan is coached by Peter McGahey. This is his first season at the helm of the Chippewas women's soccer program.
SCOUTING TOLEDO
The Toledo Rockets are 2-4-0 this season. Before facing the Flyers, Toledo will take on Indiana State on Friday, Sept. 20. The Rockets are coming off a 1-0 loss to Pittsburgh, but finished last weekend strong as they topped No. 22 Pepperdine in a 3-2 win. Toledo is led by senior forward Rachel MacLeod who has tallied five goals in their first six games of the season. UT and UD share one other common opponent in the University of Kentucky in 2013. The Rockets dropped a 2-1 decision to the Wildcats on Sunday, Sept. 1, while the Flyers sustained a 3- 1 setback to UK Sunday, Sept. 8.
THE SERIES
- The Flyers are 1-1-0 against Central Michigan. These two teams last met up in August of 2012 where Central Michigan walked away from Baujan Field with a 4-2 win over the Flyers.
- The Flyers hold the upper hand in the series with Toledo. Dayton is 3-0-1 against the Rockets. Their last meeting was played at Baujan Field in 2010 which resulted in a 2-1 win for the Flyers.
A-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS FOR CAMPBELL
Ashley Campbell, a sophomore, was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 13-15. She tallied three goals and one assist during the weekend for the Flyers. She scored a goal and had the game-winning assist in a 4-0 win over Florida International (Sept. 13). Campbell recorded both Dayton goals in a 2-2 double-overtime tie against Wright State (Sept. 15).
LIBERTIN SELECTED TO TOP 30 FOR SENIOR CLASS AWARD
Juliana Libertin has been selected as a candidate for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award. She is one of 30 NCAA® women's soccer student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected as a candidate. Libertin is the fifth UD women's soccer player to be named to the Senior CLASS Top 30 since the award was started in 2007.
KICKS FOR KIDS
The Flyer women's soccer team is collaborating with the University of Dayton Department of Health and Sport Science to support their Adapted Physical Activity Program with "Kicks for Kids". Fans can send donations to: University of Dayton, c/o Kicks for Kids, 300 College Park, Dayton, OH 45469-1210. The funds raised will go toward equipment for the UD Adapted Physical Activity Program.
UP NEXT
Dayton opens Atlantic 10 conference play at Richmond Saturday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. at Baujan Field. It is UD's Family Weekend and also men's and women's soccer Alumni weekend.
