FLYERS PREP FOR GAME AT OSU, HOST IUPUI SUNDAY

DAYTON, Ohio
- The University of Dayton men's soccer team has a pair of contests this weekend, one on the road and one at home. The Flyers (5-0-0) will travel just up the road to Ohio State (2-2-1) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before returning to Baujan Sunday to host IUPUI (0-6-2) at 4 p.m.

Sunday will be Military Appreciation Day at Baujan Field.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The Flyers won their second tournament this season by defeating Detroit 1-0 at the MSU Tournament in Springfield, Missouri. Freshman James Haupt scored the lone goal for UD while senior Greg Enstone provided the assist.

ABOUT THE BUCKEYES
Ohio State is 2-2-1 on the season with wins over SMU and Northern Illinois. Most recently, the Buckeyes are coming off a pair of ties against Bowling Green and Wright State. OSU has a veteran team and veteran coaching staff in 17th-year head coach John Bluem.

The Buckeyes are averaging one goal a game, while giving up 1.20 goals to opponents. Five different players have recorded a goal this season for a very balanced OSU offense. Alex Ivanov has played every minute in goal for the Buckeyes.

ABOUT THE JAGUARS
IUPUI has yet to record a win this year, but has been in every game it has played. The Jaguars will be looking to get on the scoresheet after getting shutout in their last two contests.

The IUPUI offense has given up 2.25 goals per game and has split time between Eduardo Cortes and Christian Lomeli in goal. Michael Sass leads the offense with two goals.

OFF TO A FAST START
Dayton has jumped out to a 3-0 record at the start of the 2013 season and has outscored opponents 11-3 on the year. Two of the wins helped the Flyers clinch the Dayton Flyer Classic championship.

HAUPT'S CONTRIBUTION
Flyer freshman James Haupt earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 16 after scoring the game-winning goal for Dayton against Detroit the weekend prior. That goal also clinched a share of the MSU Tournament title for the Flyers.

SECOND STRAIGHT TITLE
Dayton competed in its second tournament in as many weekends and picked up its second straight tournament championship by winning a share of the Missouri State Tournament title with wins over Western Ilinois (2-0) and Detroit (1-0).

MSU ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
The Flyers had three players named to the all-tournament team in Missouri after winning the tournament championship. Sophomores Chris Froschauer and Amass Amankona were recognized for their efforts while senior Jonathan Nelson was named to the team as well.

LENNING FOR MVP
Sophomore defender Christopher Lenning was named Dayton Flyer Classic MVP after helping the Flyer defense allow just one goal the entire weekend.

FLYER CLASSIC ALL-TOURNAMENT
Dayton had four players named to the All-Tournament team after the Dayton Flyer Classic. Senior Abe Keller scored three goals in two games to earn honors while sophomores Maik Schoonderwoerd, Amass Amankona, and Christopher Lenning received accolades as well.

RED JERSEY
Senior midfielder Eddie Jones earned the teams' Red Jersey. An award presented to the best performer in the preseason for UD. Players accumulate points in games, practices and team challenges.

SHAPING THE PROGRAM
UD men's soccer had 16 newcomers at this point in the season last year. The 2013 is different as the Flyers benefit from the experience of nine seniors and three graduate students.

WINNINGEST COACH
Head Coach Dennis Currier became UD's winningest soccer coach in 2011 recording win number 66, surpassing former head coach Roy Craig who had 65 wins from 1988-1995. In addition, Currier's wins came in 130 games, which was 31 games less than Craig. Currier holds a .707 lifetime winning percentage with a combined record of 272-102-33.

PRESEASON PREP
Dayton faced a pair of quality opponents in the preseason after tying the University of Kentucky 0-0 in the opener and defeating Eastern Illinois 2-1. To wrap up the preseason, the Flyers held their annual Red and White intersquad scrimmage the following Sunday  in which the Red team came out on top 5-2. Sophomore Maik Schoonderwoerd scored a pair of goals in the scrimmage for the Reds.

PRESEASON ACCOLADES
The Flyers had a trio of players recognized by preseason All-Atlantic 10 team lists. Senior Abe Keller was named First Team All-A-10 in the College Sports Madness poll with sophomore goalkeeper Chris Froschauer earning second team honors in that same release. Freshman forward James Haupt was named to the All-Rookie team by the A-10 and was tabbed the Freshman of the Year by CSM as well.

ACROSS THE GLOBE
This year's Flyer squad features 11 international players. Dayton has student-athletes from Canada, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Netherlands, Jamica, Costa Rica, Sweden and Switzerland.

UP NEXT
Dayton remain at home for the next five contests. The Flyers will take on Loyola Chicago Friday, Sept. 28 at 8:30 p.m. to continue the home stand.
