FAIRFAX, Va. - The University of Dayton volleyball team picked up its ninth-consecutive win Friday night with a straight-set sweep (25-17, 25-11, 25-9) of George Mason at the Patriots' Recreation and Athletic Center. Junior Alaina Turner posted a match-high 15 kills while freshman Jane Emmenecker recorded a 35-assist, 11-dig double-double in the win for the Flyers.

UD hit at a blistering .427 for the match with 45 total kills while GM eeked out a .020 hitting percentage with 22 kills. The Flyers tallied 7.5 team blocks to the Patriots' five.

Also for the Flyers, junior Jill Loiars chipped in nine kills and senior Rachel Jones passed a match-high 14 digs. Junior Janna Krafka tallied eight digs to go with a career-high four service aces and three Flyers each added three blocks.

Dayton (16-4, 5-0 A-10) was ahead early, 4-2, over George Mason (5-12, 1-3 A-10) but the Patriots rallied to even the first set at five points each. With three consecutive kills, the Flyers were up three, 9-6, and UD was up four at 15-11 forcing GM into a timeout. The Patriots served up an ace to cap a 3-0 spurt out of the break, pulling to within one point, 15-14, but the Flyers answered with four-straight points to push the squad's lead to five, 19-14. Dayton was ahead by as many as eight, 23-15, and Loiars scored set point at 24-17 with her kill from the left side. UD took the first set, 25-17.

The Flyers scored the first five points of the second frame and took advantage of several Patriot attacking errors to break open a nine-point advantage at 12-3. Dayton was ahead 11, 16-5, after a kill from freshman Jessica Sloan and was up 11 again at 19-8 following a kill from Hannan. The Patriots' service error at 22-11 kick-started a 4-0 Flyer run to end the set as UD claimed the 25-11 second-set win.

The third set started with a 3-1 Dayton lead and the Flyer advantage was four, 7-3, after a Patriot attack error. UD rattled off four-straight points to push its lead to six, 12-6, and its 11-0 run late in the frame definitely put the game out of reach for Mason, 23-7. The Flyers took the 25-9 win in set three to take the match in three frames.

The Patriots were led by Morghan Martin and Meredith Bush with five kills each and Stephi Matsushima with 13 digs.

Dayton returns to action tomorrow night to take on the George Washington Colonials in the nation's capital. The Flyers and Colonials will square off at 7 p.m. at GW's Smith Center.
