PEORIA, Ill. – The University of Dayton men's cross country team finished 12th out of 27 teams at the 11th annual Bradley Pink Classic 8k race Friday afternoon at Newman Golf Course. The Bradley "Pink" Classic featured more than 900 individuals representing 45 universities and colleges in four races.
Illinois State won the 8k red race with an average team time of 25:08.8, followed by Nebraska, Missouri, South Dakota State and Saint Louis to round out the top five.Â
The Flyers had an average team time of 25:46.5 and finished ahead of Northern Iowa, Marquette and Creighton.
"Finishing in the top half of this race means we are a bona fide contender to finish in the top of the A-10 Championship," said UD Head Coach
Rich Davis. "The guys ran extremely well as a team. They attacked the course and hung tough together in some tough conditions."
Sophomore
Michael Tymoski ran a personal best time of 25:35.6 and was the Flyers' top finisher. Senior
Michael Russell was the next UD runner to cross the line in a time of 25:39.8. Sophomores
Kyle Lach and
Alex Kuvin crossed just 10 seconds after Russell in a photo finish at the line in a time of 25:49.1.Â
Sophomore
Hunter Johnston (25:58.8) and freshman
Tyler Adgalanis (25:59.6) also ran a sub-26 race and were the fifth and sixth Flyer finishers. Sophomore
Ethan Louis was the seventh UD finisher in a time of 26:05.3.
"We ran a 13-second spread between the one and four men," said. Davis. "We had a 24-second spread between our first man and seventh man. Each of the top six guys was under 26 minutes which adds to our credibility. We are really looking forward to the A-10 Championship in two weeks."
Freshmen
Michael George (26:06.6) and
Tom Clark (26:12.0) also had PR times.Â
All participants at the Bradley "Pink" Classic wore special pink bib numbers on the front of their jerseys in addition to having the option of wearing pink bib sheets on their back with the names of individuals who have been impacted by breast cancer to recognize those individuals during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.Â
Dayton is back in action at the A-10 8k Championship in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m.
