DAYTON – The University of Dayton cross country team has officially signed four runners for the Class of 2030. Luke Berkebile, Kyle Brown, Tesfaldet Hailu, and Junior Lopez will join the Flyers for the 2026 season.

Luke Berkebile comes to Dayton from Mason, Ohio, where he competed for one of the state's premier cross country programs at Mason High School. Berkebile earned First Team All-Greater Miami Conference honors in 2025. He helped the Comets place third at the OHSAA State Championships and earned an All-Ohio certificate. In 2024, Berkebile was a member of Mason's state championship team. He owns PRs of 15:43.9 in the 5K and 4:23.79 in the 1,600m.
Kyle Brown joins the Flyers from Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School in Broadview Height, Ohio. Brown qualified individually for the 2025 OHSAA Championship Cross Country Meet and his personal best in the 5K is 16:06.6 and 4:18.24 in the 1,600m.
Tesfaldet Hailu competed in cross country and track at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was named All-Conference during the 2026 Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference track season and helped the Giants capture their first MIC title since 2014. Hailu owns PRs in the 5K of 15:22.7 and 9:29.71 in the 3,200m.
Junior Lopez comes to Dayton from Glenbrook South High School in Glenview, Illinois. Lopez finished 10th at the 3A IHSA Cross Country Championships and holds the school record in the 3M. In 2025, he won both the Central Suburban League title andr regional championship. His personal bests include 14:20.95 in the 3M and 1:53.07 in the 800m.
