VOLLEYBALL BLANKS FORDHAM, 3-0, FOR SIXTH A-10 WIN

Turner Posts Match-High 15 kills, Erhahon with Seven Blocks

DAYTON, Ohio - In straight-set fashion, the University of Dayton volleyball team downed the visiting Rams of Fordham 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-8) in Atlantic 10 Conference action at Frericks Center. Junior Alaina Turner led the Flyers with a match-high 15 kills to go with nine digs, four blocks and three services aces.

Also for the Flyers, junior Jill Loiars chipped in eight kills and freshman Amber Erhahon tallied seven blocks. Freshman Jane Emmenecker set 29 assists while junior Janna Krafka passed a match-high 11 digs.

After falling behind 3-1, Dayton (18-5, 6-1 A-10) scored three straight the take the lead away from Fordham (1-19, 1-5 A-10), 4-3. There would be two more ties, at seven and eight, before the Flyers took the lead for good at 9-8 on a Loiars solo block. The UD advantage was three, 12-9, after a kill from Loiars and the squad reached its largest advantage at 23-17. A service ace by freshman Lauren Gresham gave UD set point and the frame was over, 25-18, after a kill from Loiars.

The Flyers started the second set with a 7-1 run forcing the Rams into a timeout. Turner served up an ace to push the UD advantage to seven, 11-4, and Dayton was up 10, 16-6, after a kill from junior Jenna Jendryk. Leading by 12, 22-10, Dayton rattled off three straight points to end the set, 25-10, and took a 2-0 lead in the match.

After a 2-2 tie in the third set, Dayton put together a 7-0 run on the strength of five kills from Turner to jump ahead, 9-2. The Flyers would score three more before the run ended and the lead bloomed to 16, 21-5, on a kill from Loiars. The Rams signaled for timeout and out of the break Fordham was only able to score three more points as Dayton put the game away, 25-8, to take the match, 3-0.

The Rams were led by Brianna O'Neil and Lisa Hipp with five kills each and Abigail Konovodoff with 11 assists.

The Flyers return to action Sunday afternoon as they are set to play host to the Rams of Rhode Island. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at Frericks Center and admission is free.
