George Rohde, III, the University of Dayton men's golf team is in third place (295) after the first round of play of the 2014 Dayton Fall Invitational. Rohde, III, fired a three-under-par round of 68 to lead the field and is three strokes ahead of the next competitor. The two-day event is being held at NCR Country Club and played on the South course at par 71 and 7,100 yards.
Xavier leads all teams in scoring with a four-man total of 293 (+9) after the first round.
"Overall the team played well and put us in a good position, only two shots off the lead," commented head coach
Gip Hoagland following Monday's round. "We have a great opportunity to play in the final group with the leaders and to claim our first tournament victory of the season."
Sophomore
Nick Paxson fired a round of three-over-par 74 to sit in a tie for 15th place among 100 competitors. Junior
Thomas Goss carded a round of 76 (+5) and is tied for 35th place while sophomore
Kevin Wargo turned in a round of six-over-par 77 and is tied for 46th place. Freshman
Phillip Johnson rounded out the Flyer five-man team with a round of 78 (+7) and is tied for 58th place.
Playing as an individuals, junior
Matt Fazio and senior
Will Chambers also turned in a 77 to sit in a tie for 46th along with Goss. Freshman
P.J. Malik carded a round of 78 (+7, t-58) and senior
Craig Purpus turned in a nine-over-par round of 80 (t-73). Freshmen
Erron Vandemore (84, +13) is tied for 92nd and
Brendan Keating (85, +14) is tied for 96th place to round out the individuals played for Dayton.
Play will resume Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
