Flyers Will Play Their Third Road Game In Four Weeks At USD

Game Notes In PDF Format
DAYTON --
The University of Dayton football team heads on the road again to take on the San Diego Toreros on Saturday, Oct. 25.  Game time at Torero Stadium is 9 p.m. ET.

This is the third game road game in four weeks for the Flyers.

Dayton is 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Pioneer Football League, while San Diego is also 5-1 and 3-1 in the PFL.  Dayton is coming off its fourth straight victory, a 41-7 win over Morehead State.  San Diego is coming off its fourth straight victory as well, a 27-21 road victory over Butler.

STREAKING
UD has not been shut out in a school-record 426 straight games, the best such active string in all of college football. The last team to shut out the Flyers was Marshall, 9-0, on Oct. 16, 1976. That is also the all-time FCS record.

SERIES STUFF
• Dayton leads the series 15-6.  Last year in Dayton, UD won 45-38 in double overtime on Oct. 19.  In the last meeting in San Diego, the Toreros won 41-9 on Oct. 27, 2012.
• Dayton is 7-3 all-time on the road against the Toreros.

SCOUTING THE TOREROS
• Against a strong schedule, San Diego has the seventh-ranked offense in the PFL.  Defensively USD is ranked fourth overall, and has the top-ranked pass defense, giving up under 200 yards passing on average per game.
• On the offensive side of the ball, San Diego is led by sophomore running back Jonah Hodges, who is second in the PFL with 114 yards per game.  On the defensive side of the ball the Toreros have a bevy of players that are near the top of statistical categories, most notably sophomore defensive back Jamal Agnew, who leads the PFL is passes defended and is tied for the lead in interceptions.

PFL POWER
• The Pioneer Football League is entering its 22nd season.  The original (and now the only) Division I strictly need-based football league began with charter members Butler, Dayton, Drake, Evansville, San Diego and Valparaiso.
• The Flyers' 92-29 PFL record is the best in league history.
• The Flyers were picked to finish second in the Pioneer Football League in this year's preseason poll of the league's coaches, behind San Diego.

GROUND GAINER
• Senior Connor Kacsor needs 42 yards to reach 1,000 yards for the 2014 season.
• Had another career game vs Morehead State with 10 carries for 232 yards and four touchdowns.  Three of his touchdowns were of 50+ yards.
• Earned his third PFL Offensive Player of the Week honor after the Morehead State game.
• Kacsor leads the PFL and is second in FCS in rushing per game (159.7).
• He is the only player in FCS this season with three "top twelve" rushing performances -- the year's best 301 yards against Georgetown, the ninth-best effort of 232 yards vs Morehead State, and the 12th best of 213 at Davidson.
• A true senior, Kacsor has 11 games of 100+ yard in 24 career games, and eight in his last 13.
• Four of those 13 were 200 yards or more.
• He now has four of the eight Flyer single-game rushing performances of 200 yards or more. (Gary Kosins has two, Dave Jones has one and Jermaine Bailey has one).

PLANES, CLEATS AND AUTOMOBILES
• The 66-yard touchdown run by Kyle Sess that closed out the scoring in the Morehead State win, might be the longest run from scrimmage this season for UD, but it might not have been Sess' most impressive run of the day.
• As soon as the game ended, Sess sprinted across the parking lot between Welcome Stadium and the team locker room at the Donoher Center in UD Arena so he could change and make a 5 pm flight at Dayton International Airport.  The flight took him to the wedding of a close family friend in Chicago.
• Luckily for Sess, Dayton's ground dominance translated into the game being the shortest of the year (two hours and 39 minutes) for the Flyers.
• Recruited to Dayton as a quarterback, Sess was moved to receiver in 2013.  Due to injuries, he was moved to running back before the Marist game.  After the Morehead State win, Connor Kacsor remarked to WHIO Radio's Larry Hansgen "(Sess) has learned in two weeks what it took me two years to figure out!"

UP NEXT
Dayton is back home on consecutive weekends for the only time this season.  The Flyers will play Valparaiso on Saturday, Nov. 1, and then Drake on Saturday, Nov. 8.  Both games kickoff at 1 p.m. ET.
