Dayton (20-5) scored the first three points of the match and was up, 4-1, on Eastern Kentucky (16-9) early in the frame. An Erhahon kill set the score at 8-4 in favor of the Flyers but the Colonels rallied to even the set at eight points apiece. EKU kept the game close and trailed UD by one at 17-16 but the Flyers rattled off four-straight points to pull ahead, 21-16. Dayton reached set point at 24-18 with a kill from Loiars and she sealed the win with a kill on the next play.
Eastern Kentucky started quick in set two, scoring the first two points of the game. A Flyer attack error tied the set at 4-4 but Turner and Erhahon recorded back-to-back kills for a two-point cushion. A Colonel service error evened the set again, this time at nine points each and the Flyers scored two more to retake the lead, 11-9. A Dayton 6-0 run opened a 17-11 advantage for the Flyers and the lead stretched to eight, 23-15. The Colonels put together a seven-point run to pull within one late, 23-22, but Loiars once again earned UD set point with a kill. Turner scored the set's winning kill and the Flyers took the 2-0 match advantage with a 25-22 second-set win.
It was a 3-0 start for the Flyers in set three and a 5-0 Dayton spurt pushed the advantage to eight, 11-3. The Flyers found themselves up 10, 20-10, as the Colonels signaled for timeout. Out of the break, Dayton would only allow four more points in the match as UD won set three, 25-14, and the match, 3-0.
The Colonels were led by Alexis Plagens with 11 kills and Dena Ott with a match-high 19 digs.
The Flyers return to action Saturday with their lone Atlantic 10 contest of the week, a big-time match-up against Saint Louis at home. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Frericks Center and admission is free.
