MADISON, Wisc. – The University of Dayton women's cross country team traveled north to Madison, Wisconsin on Friday and competed in the 2014 NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet.
The 6K race took place on a cold morning, but the Flyers were prepared to battle the elements at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course.
Dayton finished 23
rd in the meet out of 32 teams in the Great Lakes region. The Flyers scored 648 points, putting them ahead of teams like Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Valparaiso, IPFW, and Cincinnati. Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Toledo finished 1-2-3 in the event.
Individually, junior
Mickey Ludlow led the way for the Flyers with a time of 21:55, which put her in 92
nd out of 219 runners. Freshman
Emily Leonard followed in 98
th with a time of 22:02. Senior
Katie Ollier, freshman
Grace McDonald, and sophomore
Kathleen Keene all finished near each other around the 23:00 mark. Freshman
Kate Crawford and
Brittany Fisher completed the scorers for Dayton on the day.
"Today didn't quite go as planned, but the group understands where we need to go from here," said Head Coach
Sarah Haveman. "I have a lot of faith in this group and know at this point next year we will be in a great place. At this point we will take a short break and then get back to work. There is a lot of talent in this group and with a bit more time things will come together for us."
The Dayton women's cross country season will now prepare for competition in the indoor track season starting in January.
