BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Dayton (12-9-2) fell 4-0 to No. 14 Virginia Tech in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday night at Thompson Field.  The Hokies scored four first-half goals and the Flyers couldn't recover, despite playing a solid second half.
This marks Dayton's ninth appearance in the NCAA tournament and the third time these two teams have faced off in the NCAA Tournament (2009, 2010 and 2014).
The Hokies (15-5-0) had 23 shots to Dayton's four, including 16 shots on goal. Virginia Tech scored all four goals in the first half in about a 15-minute span (the first coming at 14:46 and the last at 29:58).

Sophomore Murielle Tiernan scored two goals, including the game-winner, for Virginia Tech, her 12
th and 13
th of the season in the 15
th and 26
th minute. Senior Katie Yensen (21

th minute) also scored for Tech.
The Hokies advanced to the NCAA College Cup in 2013, falling 3-2 to Florida State in the national semifinal. Virginia Tech will play Georgetown (in an upset when they advanced on PKs over third-seeded West Virginia) next weekend in the NCAA Second Round at Penn State.
This was the final match in the careers of seniors
Haley Keller,
Allison Klinefelter,
Chelsea Rose and
