HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The University of Dayton men's golf team opened its spring 2014 schedule Monday at Francis Marion University's Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate. The first two rounds of the 54-hole event kicked off this morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at Wexford Plantation course, which underwent extensive renovations in 2011 (overseen by the Arnold Palmer Design Company), which measures 6,828 yards and is a par 72 layout.
Freshman
Nick Paxson led the Flyers with his 76-79=155 (+11), putting the Cincinnati native in a tie for 47th place overall. Freshman
Caleb Wolters carded rounds of 78 and 81 for his 36-hole total of 159 (+15) for a tie for 64th and junior
Craig Purpus cut five strokes off his first-round score of 83 to turn in a 78 on his second 18 of the day, tying him for 72nd place (161, +17).
Senior
Andrew Steffensmeier fired rounds of 79 and 84 (163, +19) and is in a tie for 78th place while junior
George Rohde, III had back-to-back rounds of 82 to complete the team scoring for Dayton with a two-round total of 164 (+20, t-80th). Freshman
Kevin Wargo is playing as an individual in the event, turning in a 90-83=173 (+29) after the first day at Wexford Plantation.
The team returns to action Tuesday for the final round of play. The Flyers will tee off at 8:30 a.m. in a shotgun start.
