NASHVILLE - The University of Dayton softball team opened the second day of the Tennessee State Tiger Classic with a 9-3 win over Youngstown State (3-4) as senior Dana Trotta had a perfect game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. Five other Flyers tallied two hits on the afternoon as well as Dayton out-hit Youngstown State 14-9.

Freshman Katie Ryan had a stellar game as well, going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and a run scored for the Flyers. Junior Natalie Mariano scored three runs for UD and also tallied two hits in the game.

Dayton (2-6) got on the board first after senior Jordan Jennings was walked and junior Tiffany Ricks doubled her in with a ball that sailed all the way to the fence. With Ricks on second, Ryan's hard-hit infield single sent her racing home. Trotta led off the second inning with a single and was moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Kennedy Haynes. Senior Rachel Archer got Trotta to third with a base hit and she made it home on a sacrifice fly out from freshman Gabrielle Snyder. After the first two innings, Dayton held the 3-0 advantage.

Youngstown State got a run back in the bottom of the second with a bases-loaded, sacrifice fly out but the a batter's interference call ended the frame for the Penguins on the next play to get Dayton out of the inning.

In the top of the third, Jennings led off with a single and motored around the bases reaching home on an RBI-double from Ryan. The bases were loaded when freshman Hannah DeSalvo was called in to pinch hit. DeSalvo took one on the left shoulder blade, taking a base and collecting an RBI as Ryan strolled across the plate. The Flyers got one more in the top of the fourth when Mariano led off the inning with her first long-ball of the season to give Dayton the 6-1 lead.

With runners on second and third in the sixth, Ryan flied out to center field, bringing across Mariano and with Vazquez at the plate, Ricks scored on a wild pitch. Youngstown State also got two runs in the sixth when Samantha Snodgrass' two-RBI single to right center plated two runners. After six frames, the Flyers were in charge, 8-3.

In the seventh, the Flyers again had runners on second and third as Ricks came up to bat. She reached first on a error on the Penguin second baseman and Mariano scored what would be the final run of the contest. Dayton held on for the 9-3 win.

Freshman Gabrielle Snyder (2-1) collected the win for the Flyers in the circle. She tossed six innings for Dayton, striking out two and walking three while giving up one earned run on eight hits. Junior Lindsey Diggs worked the final inning for UD, striking out one and giving up one hit.

Caitlyn Minney (0-2) was charged with the loss for Youngstown State. She put in three innings of work, striking out two and walking two while giving up five earned runs on seven hits. Chancy Williams closed out the game for the Penguins, throwing four innings and striking out two while walking two and giving up three earned runs on seven hits.
