SOFTBALL FALLS TO CSU BAKERSFIELD, 1-0, IN DEFENSIVE BATTLE

Snyder Tosses Complete Game, Tallies Two Hits on the Afternoon

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The University of Dayton softball team come up on the short end of a 1-0 defensive battle against CSU Bakersfield Saturday morning in its third game of the 2014 UCSB Gaucho Classic. Freshman Gabrielle Snyder tossed a complete game in the circle and also led the team offensively with two hits, including a single in the fifth inning to break up the Roadrunner no-hitter.

Snyder was 2-for-3 at the plate while also throwing seven complete innings for the Flyers. She (0-1) was charged with the loss in the circle for Dayton after giving up one unearned run on four hits while striking out one.

Senior Jordan Jennings recorded the Flyers' third hit of the contest, a single in the seventh.

Bakersfield scored the only run of the game in the first inning as the lead-off batter singled and then stole second. She was moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt and was able to score on a hard-hit ball to center field.

Kelsie Monroe (1-1) picked up the win for the 'Runners after putting in six innings of work. She struck out five while walking two in the combined shutout. Sydney Raeber claimed her first save of the season after closing out the game in the circle for Bakersfield.

The Flyers will return to action on Sunday for their final two games of the UCSB Gaucho Classic. Dayton will square off against No. 11 Texas A&M Sunday morning at 9 a.m. PT (12 p.m. ET) followed by CSU Bakersfield approximately 45 minutes after the completion of the first game.
