Full Weekend Results
AKRON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's track and field team had multiple personal bests and even a new school record on Saturday at the Akron Invitational.
The highlight of the weekend was a new school record in the 400m dash as
Maya Pedersen finished with a time of 55.46 beating the previous mark of 55.67 set by Kaamilya Davis in 1997.
In the 400m dash, Paige Yaeger set a new personal record with a time of 59.12. That was good enough for ninth-place out of 23 competitors.
Cassie Grandstaff had a new personal best in the 200m dash as well, posting a time of 25.61, which earned her fifth-place.
Lizzie Gleason set a new PR in the one mile run and recorded the third best time in school history. She finished the race in 4:56.27, taking second.
Nicole Cargill also got a new personal best in the one mile, finishing third with a time of 4;59.13.
Olivia Albers bettered her PR by 11 seconds with a time of 5:06.03.
Chelsea VanHook recorded a time of 2:16.74 in the 800m and set a new personal best in the event.
In the 3000m run,
Katie Ollier finished third with a time of 9:56.20 while
Sarah Reynolds set a new personal best in the event.
The 4x400m relay team set a new season high and recorded the second best time in school history with a 3:54.03 performance. That team was composed of Pedersen, Yaeger,
Mariah Curtis, and
Chelsea VanHook.
Lauren Clark finished sixth in the 800m run with a time of 2:20.10, her best mark since 2012.
In the high jump,
Juliana Lawniczak tied her personal record with a jump of 1.63m, which earned her second place overall.
Aly Weeman had the third best weight throw in school history and set a new PR with a mark of 17.78m. She finished second overall out of 26 competitors.
Miranda Nelson wasn't far behind and finished eighth with a throw of 15.85m.
Nelson also broke into the Top 5 all-time in the shot put by shattering her personal record with a throw of 14.39m. That gave Nelson first-place in the event.
In the pole vault,
Ashley DeMange recorded the second-best performance in program history with a height of 3.97m, setting a new personal record as well. She finished third in the event.
In the triple jump,
Adria Butler finished third overall with a mark of 10.73m.
That makes it three straight weeks the Flyers have set new school records after breaking records in the 600m and 4x800m relay.
Head coach
Jason Francis talked about the performances.
"This was an outstanding weekend of performances for the Flyers," said Francis. "We saw a number of personal bests this weekend capped off with a school record in the 400m by
Maya Pedersen. The women did an excellent job of competing this weekend and we are excited for the conference meet in two weeks."
The Flyers will next compete at the Hoosier Hills Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. next week.
