In May, Gilhuly helped lead the Flyers to the program's first-ever Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championship. He was named the 2026 Atlantic 10 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year alongside former associate head coach Aaron Gordon, who departed Dayton earlier this month.  

Gilhuly joined Dayton as the throws coach in 2017, and Director of Athletics Neil Sullivan has watched the program flourish during his tenure:

"Kevin has been part of our program for nine years, most recently as part of the team that won the program's first Atlantic 10 outdoor championship in school history. He is well-positioned to continue supporting and developing our student-athletes both on and off the track, and we look forward to supporting him in this new leadership role."

Under Gilhuly's direction, Dayton's throwers have captured eight individual Atlantic 10 championships since 2018. His athletes have filled the program's all-time top-five lists in every throwing event, broken school records in the outdoor javelin and the outdoor shot put, and produced the first two Flyers to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in track and field.

Gilhuly is proud of what the Flyers have accomplished and thankful for the opportunity to lead the team moving forward:

"Dayton is home. I've spent the last nine years here watching these women raise the standard every season until they made history in May. I want to thank President Spina, Neil Sullivan, and our administration for entrusting me with leading this program that I've been fortunate to help build. What we do here doesn't change: graduate strong women, compete for championships, and represent this university the way it deserves."

The reigning A-10 Coach of the Year is coming off his most decorated class at Dayton. Rebekah Conrad led all competitors with a meet-high 26 points at the 2026 A-10 Outdoor Championships, winning conference titles in the shot put and discus while adding bronze in the hammer throw. Anna Yater earned a silver medal in the shot put, while Maggie Hofner entered the postseason ranked fourth in the conference in the discus. In 2025, Daniela Peralta became one of two Flyers to qualify for the NCAA East First Round.

Gilhuly also coached Casey Bogues to four Atlantic 10 javelin championships (2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025) and two appearances at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Bogues qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in both 2021 and 2024, finishing eighth in the javelin final at the 2024 Trials. She remains the school record holder with a throw of 57.41 meters

A native of Wallingford, Connecticut, Gilhuly graduated from Monmouth University where he was a two-time USTFCCCA Division I All-Academic Team selection, a two-time NCAA Division I East Regional qualifier in the javelin, a Second Team All-NEC honoree, a member of three conference championship teams, and a team captain. He later returned to the NEC as a coach at Sacred Heart University, helping guide the program to NEC Indoor and Outdoor Championships during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.
