KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Dayton softball team dropped a 4-2 decision to Rhode Island Saturday afternoon as the Flyers and Rams split their Atlantic 10 series over the weekend. Junior Tiffany Ricks was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for UD while knocking in one RBI.

The hits were nearly even at 7-6 in favor of Dayton while the defense was close to flawless for both teams as Rhode Island committed one miscue.

Rhode Island (5-16, 1-1 A-10) scored four runs in the fourth inning on three hits and a walk, which would prove to be the winning runs.

Dayton (10-14, 1-1 A-10) rallied in the fifth frame as senior Rachel Archer and Ricks each batted in a run. But the rally was cut short and the Flyers were not able to overcome the deficit.

Freshman Gabrielle Snyder (4-5) was charged with the loss in the circle for the Flyers after tossing a complete game. She recorded a career-high eight strikeouts to only one walk while giving up four earned runs on six hits.

Sam Bedore (3-5) was credited with the win for the Rams after also throwing a complete game. She struck out six while walking two and giving up two earned runs on seven hits.

The Flyers will return to action on Wednesday as they play host to the IUPUI Jaguars in a doubleheader that was recently added to the schedule. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at UD Softball Stadium and admission is free.
