DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team picked up a 12-4 win over cross-town rival Wright State in six innings Thursday afternoon at UD Softball Stadium. Junior Tiffany Ricks' walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning activated the eight-run rule and the game was stopped.

Senior Alysha Isaacson and junior Natalie Mariano each tallied two hits on the afternoon and Ricks recorded four RBI for the Flyers.

Wright State (7-25) quickly added three runs to the scoreboard in the first inning after two walks put two on as Becka Peterson knocked out a three-run blast. Dayton (16-22) got two runs back in the third with back-to-back singles that plated senior Rachel Archer and a Raider error that allowed Mariano to come home.

The Flyers got two more across in the fourth to take the 4-3 lead when Mariano recorded a two-RBI double and UD never looked back. The fifth inning brought in three more scores when Isaacson doubled in sophomore Madeline Simmonds and freshman Gabrielle Snyder doubled in two as well.

The Raiders got a run back in the top of the sixth after an illegal pitch and back-to-back wild pitches but that would be all the offense WSU could muster. In the bottom of the sixth, Isaacson doubled in Mariano and the bases the were loaded when senior Dana Trotta was hit by a pitch. With one out and three on, Ricks sent a long ball sailing over the left field fence for a walk-off grand slam that ended the game with Dayton ahead, 12-4.

Junior Kayla English (11-10) was credited with the win for Dayton after throwing five innings. She struck out one to four walks and gave up four earned runs on three hits. Sophomore Emily Froment closed out the game for the Flyers, working the final inning of the contest. She struck out one and walked one.

Montana Wear (3-14) was charged with the loss after putting in 5.1 innings in the circle for Wright State. She struck out six while walking five and gave up eight earned runs on seven hits. Krystian DeWitt faced the final batter of the game.

The Flyers return to action on Sunday, April 13 with an Atlantic 10 doubleheader against Saint Joseph's. First pitch is set for 10 a.m. at UD Softball Stadium and admission is free.
