#UDSB FALLS AT ST. BONAVENTURE 5-4, WINS NIGHTCAP 3-0

Ricks Goes 3-for-7 on the Day for the Flyers

OLEAN, N.Y. - The University of Dayton softball team split its Atlantic 10 Conference series with St. Bonaventure, losing 5-4 in the first game and shutting out the Bonnies 3-0 in the nightcap. Junior Tiffany Ricks went 3-for-7 at the plate for the day while two Flyers tallied home runs on the afternoon as well. Freshman Gabrielle Snyder and sophomore Emily Froment combined on the shutout in the circle for UD in the second game.

Senior Alysha Isaacson extended her season-long hitting streak to eight games while junior Natalie Mariano reached base for the 16th consecutive game, a team-long streak this season.

Despite jumping out to the 3-0 lead, Dayton (19-25, 4-8 A-10) would eventually succumb to St. Bonaventure (6-25, 3-5 A-10), 5-4, in the first game of the day. Mariano knocked out a long-ball in her first at-bat of the game and Synder doubled in two runs later in the first inning. The Bonnies got a run back in the bottom of the second but the Flyers scored again in the fourth with a solo shot from senior Jordan Jennings to give UD the 4-1 advantage.

SBU put up a three-spot in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game up and took the lead with a RBI-single in the fifth. Dayton would not be able to score again as St. Bonaventure held on for the 5-4 win.

Junior Kayla English (12-12) was charged with the loss for the Flyers, working a complete game in the circle. She struck out four and walked four while giving up four earned runs on six hits.

Carly Bilchak (1-5) was credited with the win for the Bonnies, also tossing a complete game. She struck out five while walking two and gave up four earned runs on seven hits.

The tide shifted in the second game as the Flyers plated two in the second inning and a third in the third frame. Isaacson was brought home on a Bonnies error and Snyder came home on a Flyer groundout in the second. In the third, senior Rachel Archer scored on a sacrifice fly out by Isaacson.

The Bonnies would leave 10 runners on base, including seven in scoring position, but not get a run as the Flyers combined for the shutout win, 3-0.

Froment (1-4) earned the second-game win for the Flyers after closing out the game in the circle. She threw 3.2 innings, striking out four while walking three and gave up three hits. Snyder started the game for UD, working 3.1 innings (below the four-inning minimum to earn the win). She recorded one strike out to two walks.

The Flyers return to action on Monday with a doubleheader at Youngstown State. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at YSU's McCune Park.
