Dayton (2-1) started off slow in the first set as Middle Tennessee (1-2) jumped out to a 4-1 lead. The Blue Raider lead was five, 10-5, after a Flyer attacking error but three consecutive kills from UD cut the MT advantage to one, 13-12. Middle Tennessee remained in front until the set's first tie at 22 apiece on an Emmenecker kill and Dayton would finally take the lead at set point (24-23) as Turner laid down the kill. Loiars sealed the win for UD, 25-23, as the Flyers went up one game to none on the Blue Raiders.
With the beginning of the second set closely contested, Middle Tennessee was able to stretch its lead to four at 8-4 but Dayton rattled off five straight to take the lead at 9-8. There were 10 ties before UD went ahead two, 23-21, late in the game and MT was facing set point at 24-22. The Blue Raiders laid up a soft hit and Agu and Emmenecker combined on the block to claim the second-set win as the Flyers went up 2-0 for the match.
The Flyers were up four, 7-3, in the third set after consecutive service aces from freshman Kelsey Osgood. The lead was four again at 9-5 following a Blue Raider attacking error and then ballooned to 12, 18-6, after a 9-1 run by the Flyers. UD would cruise the rest of the way and freshman Lauren Gresham capped off the win with a kill to end the set at 25-14 in favor of the Flyers.
Middle Tennessee was led by Chelsea Ross with 10 kills and Jacqueline Lux with 13 digs.
