FLYER VOLLEYBALL HEADED TO CLEVELAND THIS WEEKEND

Dayton to Square Off Against Toledo, Navy and host Cleveland State

DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton volleyball is heading into the third weekend of the season with a 4-2 record after picking up two wins in its home tournament co-hosted by Wright State Sept. 5-6, the Flyer-Raider Invitational. In their three-match outing at the Cleveland State Invitational Sept. 12-13, the Flyers will square off against Toledo, Navy and the host Vikings.

About Dayton's Opponents
Toledo is still searching for its first win of the season after starting out 0-6. At the NC State Classic last weekend, the Rockets dropped straight-set decisions to Connecticut, NC State and Rice. Cleveland State (3-4) closed out the Penn Tournament with two losses last Saturday to Penn and Colgate after winning its first match of the weekend against Georgetown. The Vikings hosted a single match at home last week against Akron, picking up the sweep of the Zips. Navy (2-4) is suffering through a three-match losing streak after dropping contests to Alabama, Virginia and LIU Brooklyn at last weekend's Cavalier Classic. The Mids won two of three at their home tournament to open the season.

Series Stuff
• In the 12 times Dayton and Toledo have previously met, the two are even at six wins apiece. Most recently, the Rockets squeaked past the Flyers, 3-2, last season on Sept. 18.
• Dayton leads its all-time series with Cleveland State, 16-5, and the Flyers have won three straight and 10 of the last 11 meetings between the two programs. UD and CSU haven't played since 2008 and the series began in 1974.
• Saturday's match between Dayton and Navy will be the first meeting between the two programs.

Flyer Facts
• Tim Horsmon is in his sixth season overall, and first since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2014. His record at Dayton is 132-45 and his overall win-loss mark sits at 308-209 in 16 seasons as a head coach. UD is now 5-1 in season openers with Horsmon at the helm.
• Dayton returns three of its top five kills producers from a year ago, including junior Jill Loiars who ranked second on the team in 2013 with 258 kills. Senior Isolde Hannan had the team's top returning hitting percentage (.283) and blocks total (119, 1.31/set - both ranked second on the squad last season).
• Last year, UD finished the season ranked fifth in the nation in blocks/set (3.0) and Isolde Hannan was 38th nationally with 1.31 blocks/set. Dayton led the A-10 in blocks/set and ranked second in service aces (1.40) and opponent hitting percentage (.172).
• The Flyers finished the 2013 season 16-13 overall with a 8-6 Atlantic 10 mark to finish in fifth place.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title 10 times (2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1998). The Flyers have won the A-10 Championship title eight times (2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003) and have made nine NCAA appearances in program history.

13th to 1,000
With two wins at the season-opening Bowling Green Hampton Inn Invitational, Dayton now surpassed the 1,000-win mark as a program and is just the 13th NCAA DI team to attain that level of success. The Flyers currently rank 13th all-time in the Division I record book with an overall program tally of 1,002-562 over 44 seasons (1970).

Junior libero Janna Krafka has also reached 1,000 ... career digs. With her 33 digs at the BGSU Hampton Inn Invitational, she reached the 1,000-dig mark for her career. With 1,045 career digs, Krafka is now just 28 digs away from breaking into the top-five career digs leaders list in the UD record book.

Turner Earns Second All-Tourney Nod at Flyer-Raider Invitational
Junior Alaina Turner earned her second-consecutive appointment to an all-tournament team last weekend for her play at the Flyer-Raider Invitational. She averaged 4.33 kills/set and 2.83 digs/set, including a career-high-tying 22 kills and 14 digs in Dayton's 3-1 win over Bakersfield.

Hannan, Turner Tabbed for All-Tourney Squad at BGSU
For their play at the Bowling Green Hampton Inn Invitational, senior Isolde Hannan and junior Alaina Turner were named to the All-Tournament Team. Hannan finished the weekend with 10 total blocks and hit at a blistering .414 with 14 kills for the Flyers. Turner was the team's leading attacker, averaging 4.30 kills/set (43) while also getting under 2.10 digs/set and recording seven blocks.

UD Picked Third in A-10 Preseason Poll
Dayton has been chosen to finish in third place in the Atlantic 10 for 2014. The Flyers, winners of four of the last five A-10 titles, tallied 78 points in voting among the league's head coaches as announced by the conference office Aug. 20. Defending champion Duquesne was selected to win the title, receiving eight first-place votes.

Up Next
Following this weekend's tournament at Cleveland State, Dayton will host a single mid-week match Tuesday, Sept. 16 against former Atlantic 10 rival Xavier at 7 p.m. Prior to the match, the Flyers will be celebrating their 11 program All-Americans - including current Xavier assistant coach Christy Utnage Pfeffenberger. Next weekend, UD will be traveling to Jacksonville, Florida, for the North Florida Invitational Sept. 19-21.
