Final Results
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Dayton women's cross country team returned to action after a week off and finished eighth at the 2014 National Catholic Championships.
"We learned a lot today and with our youth that is important," said Head Coach
Sarah Haveman. "We raced tough and put ourselves in a position to succeed and towards the end of the race the past week caught up to us a bit. We will focus on getting past some sicknesses going around the team and look to have a great day at All Ohio. I'm proud of how they raced and know moving forward we will continue to move up and grow as a team."
Dayton totaled 221 points, ahead of DePaul, Detroit, and Niagara. All five runners that scored for the Flyers finished in the Top 60 out of 195 competitors.
Freshman
Emily Leonard paced the Flyers with a time of 18:40.67, finishing 22
nd overall. Fellow newcomer
Kate Crawford took 38
th, while senior
Megan Collins finished Top 50 as well. Freshman
Nicole Steinbicker, sophomore
Kathleen Keene, junior
Mickey Ludlow, and freshman
Grace McDonald all finished within six seconds of each other as Dayton performed consistently as a team.
Host Notre Dame took the top spot in their home meet with Marquette close behind in second.
This was a third event for the Flyers this season, all of which have seen Top 8 performances by UD.
The Flyers will next compete on Friday, Oct. 3 at the All-Ohio Championships in Cedarville, Ohio.
