Dayton Match NotesDAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton volleyball team is set to co-host the 2014 Flyer-Raider Invitational this weekend with a total of five matches being played at UD's Frericks Center. The Flyers will host Nebraska and Bakersfield while also playing a match at Wright State. There are a total of eight teams participating between the two venues - Wright State is hosting a total of six matches at McLin Gymnasium. In addition to Bakersfield, Nebraska and hosts Dayton and Wright State, Bowling Green, Eastern Kentucky and IPFW will be participating in the Invitational.
ABOUT DAYTON'S OPPONENTSTwelfth-ranked Nebraska hosted two matches at home last weekend for its AVCA Showcase, dropping both to nationally-ranked teams. The Huskers lost 3-1 to #13 Florida State and 3-0 to #3 Stanford. Wright State will come into the weekend 2-2 after picking up two wins at Indiana State's Holiday Inn Classic. The Raiders opened the weekend with a 3-0 loss to the host Sycamores and then swept both North Carolina A&T and Chicago State. WSU also got in a mid-week game against Northern Kentucky, dropping the match, 3-0. CSU Bakersfield was in Huntsville, Texas, last weekend for the Sam Houston State Tournament. The Roadrunners claimed two straight-set wins over Mississippi State and Louisiana-Monroe before falling, 3-0, to Sam Houston State.
SERIES Stuff• The Flyers and Huskers have previously met three times with Nebraska holding the 3-0 advantage. Most recently, the two squads squared off last season at the Huskers' home tournament on Sept. 13, when Nebraska was also ranked #12 nationally. The Huskers defeated the Flyers, 3-0.
• Wright State is one of Dayton's most-played opponents of all time with 54 meetings between the two programs. The Raiders hold the narrow 28-26 lead in the series but the Flyers have won the last three meetings and nine out of the last 10 matches the programs have played. The two last met Sept. 22, 2013 with Dayton winning in straight sets.
• Saturday's match between Dayton and CSU Bakersfield will be the first meeting between the two programs.
FLYER FACTS•
Tim Horsmon is in his sixth season overall, and first since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2014. His record at Dayton is 130-44 and his overall win-loss mark sits at 306-208 in 16 seasons as a head coach. UD is now 5-1 in season openers with Horsmon at the helm.
• Dayton returns three of its top five kills producers from a year ago, including junior
Jill Loiars who ranked second on the team in 2013 with 258 kills. Senior
Isolde Hannan had the team's top returning hitting percentage (.283) and blocks total (119, 1.31/set - both ranked second on the squad last season).
• Last year, UD finished the season ranked fifth in the nation in blocks/set (3.0) and
Isolde Hannan was 38th nationally with 1.31 blocks/set. Dayton led the A-10 in blocks/set and ranked second in service aces (1.40) and opponent hitting percentage (.172).
• The Flyers finished the 2013 season 16-13 overall with a 8-6 Atlantic 10 mark to finish in fifth place.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title 10 times (2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1998). The Flyers have won the A-10 Championship title eight times (2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003) and have made nine NCAA appearances in program history.
13TH to 1,000With two wins at last weekend's Bowling Green Hampton Inn Invitational, Dayton now has 1,000 all-time program wins and is just the 13th NCAA DI program to attain that level of success. The Flyers currently rank 13th all-time in the Division I record book with an overall program tally of 1,000-561 over 44 seasons (1970). Interestingly, Nebraska ranks second all-time in Division I for program wins with 1,190 over 39 seasons (1975)

Janna Krafka has also reached 1,000 ... career digs. With her 33 digs at the BGSU Hampton Inn Invitational, she reached the 1,000-dig mark for her career. Krafka is now just 73 digs away from breaking into the top-five career digs leaders list in the UD record book.

Alaina Turner were named to the All-Tournament Team. Hannan finished the weekend with 10 total blocks and hit at a blistering .414 with 14 kills for the Flyers. Turner was the team's leading attacker, averaging 4.30 kills/set (43) while also getting under 2.10 digs/set and recording seven blocks.

UD PICKED THIRD IN A-10 PRESEASON POLLDayton has been chosen to finish in third place in the Atlantic 10 for 2014. The Flyers, winners of four of the last five A-10 titles, tallied 78 points in voting among the league's head coaches as announced by the conference office Aug. 20. Defending champion Duquesne was selected to win the title, receiving eight first-place votes.
UP NEXTFollowing the Flyer-Raider Invitational, Dayton will be heading north to Cleveland for the CSU Invitational to be held Sept. 12-13 at the Vikings' Woodling Gymnasium. Dayton will square off against Toledo on Friday at 4:30 p.m. followed by a doubleheader Saturday against host Cleveland State at 12:30 p.m. and Navy at 4:30 p.m.
