CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Nine Flyers ran personal record times at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championship hosted by Cedarville University Friday at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course. The University of Dayton was paced by junior
Hunter Johnston's 11
th-place finish. His 24:59 time is the 36
th fastest 8k performance in UD men's cross country history, and seventh on the Dayton Harrier Heroes list of the Top 35 all-time, five-mile personal bests.
"Hunter had the big performance of the day," Head Coach
Jason Ordway said. "He had a rough week with his training, but today he put himself in position to be successful. Despite his rough week he put in a really strong performance and it goes to show his mental fortitude."
The Flyers placed sixth of the 10 Division I teams competing. Ohio State (ranked No. 10 in the Great Lakes Region) won the championship with a score of 32. Akron (ranked No. 9 in the Great Lakes Region) was second with 62.
"Place-wise we weren't too happy with our finish, but we had nine PRs today in 25 mile per hour winds and a soggy course," said Ordway. "Plus, this is one of most stacked fields at All-Ohio that we've ever had. We performed well as individuals; the freshmen really stepped up and the juniors did well. I said I was looking for everything to click on race day and it did.
"Spencer continues to impress week-to-week. He has done all the little things he needs to do to keep improving. He had a strong finish again today," added Ordway. "
Kyle Lach (shorter mileage specialist) had a big finish in the final 400 meters of the race and helped out our team score."
