CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's cross country team finished third at the 2015 All-Ohio Championship on Friday.
Sophomore
Emily Leonard once again led the Flyers with a time of 21:17.87 and a second-place finish overall. That time broke the course record from last season of 21:41.6 and marks the third top-two performance for Leonard this year. Freshman
Taylor Vernot had another successful outing as well with an eighth-place finish and a time of 22:01.8.
The Flyers competed against five regionally ranked opponents in Ohio State (No. 7), Toledo (No. 9), Bowling Green (No. 11), Miami-Ohio (No. 13), and Xavier (No. 15). UD's 93 points trailed only Ohio and Miami with the Flyers coming in ahead of Ohio State, Cincinnati, and Kent State.
Nearly 700 student-athletes competed in the women's race, the first 6K event for Dayton this season.
The Flyers had multiple student-athletes record personal bests in the race as 10 runners set career marks at the event.
"Today the women got a glance of what they are capable of," said head coach
Sarah Haveman. "They had a plan and executed it top to bottom. I am extremely proud of how we competed."
