DAYTON -- With a bid to the NCAA Football Championship secured, the University of Dayton football team will still have plenty to play for when the Flyers travel to Des Moines Saturday, Nov. 21 to close out the regular season at Drake. Saturday's game time is 2:00 p.m. ET.
Dayton (10-0 overall, 7-0 PFL) will be playing for sole possession of the PFL title and a perfect regular season record. UD has only had two 11-0 teams in its history -- 1980 and 1996.
Drake is 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the PFL, battling through a slew of injuries to key players. But the Bulldogs are undefeated at home this season, and Saturday will be Drake's Senior Day.
UD has won its 12th PFL championship, currently twice as many as any other PFL team.
Dayton is one of two FCS teams still undefeated this season (McNeese is also unbeaten). UD has won 12 straight games going back to 2014, the longest active FCS winning streak.
The Flyers have come from behind in the second half in seven of their ten wins.
None of those come-from-behind wins were as dramatic as Saturday's 28-21 win over Marist. Marist overcame a 17-0 deficit to take a 21-20 lead with 3:38 left in the game. Dayton drove 66 yards to score with 53 seconds to go. After a successful two-point PAT, the Dayton D held and UD celebrated on its home field.
Dayton has already clinched its 38th winning season in the last 39 years.
GOOD NEWS WORTH REPEATINGThe Flyers entered the season with the fourth-best winning percentage (.738, 124-41) in FCS football since 2000 AND have produced the most football Academic All-Americans (22) at any level of competition in the same time frame. The top five in winning percentage are North Dakota State (.845), Harvard (.799), Montana (.775), Dayton (.738), and San Diego (.698).
STREAKINGUD has not been shut out in a school-record 441 straight games, the best such active string in all of college football. The last team to shut out the Flyers was Marshall, 9-0, on Oct. 16, 1976. That is also the all-time FCS record.
