UD has now won 17 straight home games. This was the first time since a 105-79 win against Coastal Carolina on December 11, 1999 that the Flyers scored more than 100 points.
Jordan Sibert and
Kendall Pollard led the way with 29 and 22 points respectively.
Dyshawn Pierre added 20 points, while
Kyle Davis and
Scoochie Smith scored 16 and 11 points. Davis also recorded a career-high seven assists (with no turnovers),
Kyle Davis scored the first five points for the Flyers with a layup, a free throw, and a dunk to give Dayton a 5-3 advantage.
Jordan Sibert tallied the next basket for Dayton off of a Fordham turnover, and followed that up with a layup to put the score at 9-5. The Rams would respond by taking a 13-11 lead following consecutive layups by Mandell Thomas.
The Flyers answered with a 12-0 run to put Dayton up 23-13. Sibert scored nine out of the twelve points during the run.Â
Dayton continued to extend its lead in the first half with free throws from
Scoochie Smith and
Kyle Davis.
Dyshawn Pierre shot a three-pointer that touched every part of the rim before finally falling through the hoop. Sibert followed with a jumper to give the home team a 32-17 advantage.
Moments later,
Bobby Wehrli secured an offensive rebound and immediately kicked it out to
Kyle Davis. Davis drove into the lane, and found
Scoochie Smith, who made his three-point attempt to give the Flyers a 38-17 lead.
Fordham cut the lead to 41-28 with over a minute left in the first half. Dayton responded when Sibert made his three point attempt. Pierre increased the lead when he converted his three-point play.
The Rams' Eric Paschall made the last basket of the half, with the Flyers taking a 47-30 lead into the locker room.
The home team maintained its lead in the second half, leading by no less than 15 points for the remainder of the game.
Kendall Pollard scored 16 points in the second half, which included two highlight reel dunks. He also made a tremendous block on a fast break that resulted in a jump ball when the ball was trapped between the rim and backboard.
Dyshawn Pierre scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half. Pierre finished a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line.
Dayton scored 54 points in the second half, with
Kyle Davis making two free throws with 43 seconds left to put the home team at 101 points.
The Flyers scored 101 points in large part, because of the amount of trips they made to the charity stripe. Dayton was able to get to the foul line 20 times during the second half, and 34 times overall.
The perimeter defensive effort by the Flyers was also very impressive, as they held Fordham to 3-18 (17%) shooting beyond the arc throughout the game.
With the win, Dayton improves to 17-4 overall and 7-2 in the Atlantic 10. Fordham falls to 5-14 and 0-8 in the conference. Paschall led four Fordham Rams in double figures with 19 points.
The Flyers will travel to George Washington on Friday, February 6th. The game will be televised on ESPN 2. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
